Lori & Rose

My name is My Desert Rose and I was gathered in 2003 from the Hill Creek Herd near Vernal, Utah. I was 2 years old at the
time. I was adopted in August of that year. I was later abandoned to Utah Animal Adoptions. I spent the next few years
going from family to family always coming back to Utah Animal Adoptions after spending only a few weeks with each family. They
all said that I was a bucker and a mean horse that could not be broke. I did not think I would ever find a permanent home or
someone to love me.

Then on a cold morning on January 26th,  2008 a car pulled up and a person got out of the passenger side
and walked to the fence and called to me. My name was Rosa at the time and I walked up to the fence to see this new person.
She scratched my forehead and ears and so I gave her a kiss and she hugged me. She told me to hang on because she was going to
take me home and she did just that.

On February 2, 2008 Lori  showed up with a friend and a horse trailer to get me. Lori
walked out into the field with a halter and I walked right up to her and let her halter me. I was going to a new home and
hopefully a permanent one. I just had one problem, I would not load into the trailer, I was terrified of them. Lori and Vicki
spent 2 hours trying to get me loaded and they finally succeeded. Lori spent the whole day in the cold with me getting
acquainted with me before practice that night. I had to get into the trailer once again and I did so but not without a fight and
nearly crushing Lori in the process. Lori rode me for the first time at practice and other than she was using the wrong bit we
did just fine. Everything was looking good and Lori was very  pleased with me, but there were dark days ahead for us. I was
not quite ready for the big time and in May I had a freak out that resulted in Lori getting hurt. We were sidelined for
another year since I needed more training and time to learn to trust Lori.

The next year we had just started practices with the  Drill Team and I once again hurt Lori. Jackie, a friend on the
team, took me and worked with me that night and over the next few  weeks she came out and worked with me until Lori was well enough
to ride again. She then kept working with the both of us and helped us to understand each other. Once again bits were changed
and a cavason was added. Jackie taught Lori how to ride me and how to understand me.

Jackie has been such a good friend and a wonderful trainer and we have learned a lot from her. We are now
a team! We did the Wild Horse and Burro Festival in 2009 and competed in the Green Horse classes and placed in all (there
were only 4 riders). We even won the Most Improved Team award.  It was a blast to go out there and show everyone that I am not a
bad horse. In September 2009 we competed at the IWHBA Fun Show and won several ribbons there as well.

We are now entering our 2nd year together and have started the Drill Team practices
again. We are looking forward to a new and exciting year for the  both of us. Our goal is to do parades this year. I am now a
happy horse with someone who loves me very much and plans on keeping me forever. Life for me could not be better. I wish all
horses could find such loving homes as I did.
